I keep on getting phone calls from this number. They are rude and when I tell them where they are ringing from they won't tell me, there is no privacy and they record every phone call with out the persons all consent.

State Mercantile and Panthera Finance are owned and operated by the same people, in the same premises.

State Mercantile COLLECTS DEBTS ON BEHALF of a number of lenders and financial institutions. They make their money by charging the lender/financial institution a one off fee and then receive a percentage of the debt recovered (around 30%).

Panthera Fiance PURCHASES DEBTS from various lenders/financial institutions/utility companies and then keep 100% of what they recover.

If you do not want collection agencies to make money off you, pay your debts before they go to collections!!!! By not paying your debts you keep these businesses running and these collectors employed.

Panthera Finance are unprofessional and bullies. They provide no documentation or evidence of any claims they make, give unreasonably time limits for you to try and investigate the claim they are making, and provide no direct or accurate answers to questions provided. If there is a debt I didn't know about and need to settle, then fine, but give me the correct information to confirm it's mine........ who polices these guys....... they should not be able to behave in this manner and get away with it. This business and all associated with it need to be closed down for malpractice. All my correspondence is on email, so while I will clear my debt, I have a great paper trail to take this much further............appreciate knowing who to take it to? Is is ASIC? Anyone else?

Never set up direct debits with any company, they will take your money, borrow it, say it was a mistake, Foxtel are pretty bad at this technique of theft. Never set up a direct debit with state mercantile, u are asking to have your accounts cleaned out.

And then I received 3 text messages of dishonor , another 3 phone calls of more agents saying I need to set up payment plan. . If they would do their god dam JOB and set it up I wouldn't be being harrased!!! State Mercantile are truly pathetic!!

Yes, it is against the law, if the company name would allow someone to deduce that there is a debt owing. ASIC make the rules, collectors just follow them.

Had a call today wanting to know if *** is around - I say no could I take a message; what is your company name - says for privacy reasons that they cant give it. I said that this is just one of those crap calls. He is then offended stating that it is a genuine call and that they are doing something for ****. I said if you were you would have his mobile number - he then says does it end in *** - I say no, so take your dribble elsewhere.

It is not impossible for the number to show up on the phone! I have saved 4 phone numbers in my phone as 'Do Not Answer'! Its a new phone number that i have only had for about 3 weeks and they call (number displayed) and ask in a really chirpy voice "Hey! is Brian around?" I tell them that they have the wrong number AGAIN and they try and put me through to someone else *LOL* and ask me if i can hold...? and then ask me to confirm my name? I say "no, i'm not wasting my time, you have the wrong number again.." but they just ring back and harass me from a different number! Another time, they left an automated message say please call this number, i didn't know who it was, so i called back. They answered but tried their hardest to not tell me who they were, i thought it was a joke and said i was gonna hang up, then they told me it was State Merchantile...Once again they asked me to confirm my name and address etc... so i told them again that they have the wrong number. Straight up HARASSMENT!!!

Tired of Same Old Story

Posted on March 16, 2015

Sorry C. Spoljar, they will continue to harass me. I get the same thing. They find me on the website of my company and call me. I then tell them they have the wrong person as I have only had the name they are chasing for less than 2 years (and I have no debt in my married name, in fact, I have no debt at all) and I have a different date of birth. They say they will note that on file and won't call. Then, about 6 months later, they try the same thing - ring my work, ask for me with a reference number - I return their call and "hells bells" they are chasing the same person and once again I explain they have the wrong person and wrong dob. The last one said "yes, I see that on your file" - SO WHY THE HELL CALL ME AGAIN!!

Best of luck getting them off your case.

Sick of collection Agents

Posted on February 23, 2015

Yes, collection agent, more clap trap about how you are the good guys only doing your job and the poor schmucks you are calling are the bad guys. Company policy DOES NOT EQUAL LAW - at least you said "most". I have had numerous discussions with collection agents and banks regarding being spouted at with the "law" and when I request the name of the legislation they are quoting, I get silence. Then I love to tell them not only the relevant legislation, but the exact paragraphs of that legislation.

Also, if they have my phone number, then they have my address. As for using computers to ring me, as I said, come through as "unknown" and no way am I answering - sick of being harassed by telemarketers. I do get "unknown" calls from the ATO and ASIC and every time they leave me a message. At no stage has ANY debt collector left me a message on my phone, even when they use a number I can google.

The reason I won't answer is I am sick to death of telling them they have the wrong person - how many times do we have to tell you guys before you stop ringing us?

Your company might act differently to others - not all debt collection companies are bad, but some are - they bully, harass, lie and threaten. Unless you work for the company with this phone number, why get upset? You seem to believe that you are honest and fair in your dealings, but you need to understand, there are many in your industry (as there are in most industries) who are not honest and fair in their dealings.

Collection Agent

"Sick Of....." - If you won't confirm your address, how are we to send you letters? You're contradicting yourself. And most of our "company policy" IS the law, thus why it is company policy. Also, in regards to private numbers - most companies use what is called a dialler, which is run through a computer system. These are used because of the sheer volume of accounts that are on arrangements or agreements that are NOT honoured. These will call the phone number listed on the account as the customer's phone number, and once the phone connects, it is transferred automatically to a CSO, and your account is displayed on their screen. It's impossible for a phone number to show up on your phone, as your calls are being routed through a computer, not directly dialled into an individual phone.

And in terms of debt collectors not leaving messages - I know for a fact this is incorrect, as I spend 50-60% of my day leaving messages to customers who NEVER call back. Though honestly, unless someone is honest and wants to pay their debts (which should be everyone really - if you've spent this credit you need to pay it back, that's the way the world works. Money isn't free, sorry), it's very unlikely that they'll call back when they receive a message with a 1300# and a reference, because as you said, 99% of people know that it's likely a collection agency calling.

Dishonest people who won't pay their debts is what makes this job much harder than it needs to be, and why there is so much suspicion when people tell us it's not them we're looking for. If people took responsibility for their spending habits this would all be a lot easier. Not everyone falls into debt because they are irresponsible - we are completely aware of that. Some people just fall on hard times, and that's just the way of the world. But avoiding us, screaming at us, or agreeing to make payments you know full well you will never pay, is the absolute worst way to deal with any collection agency. Advise them you are in hardship, PROVE it by providing a statement of position with all of your incomings and outgoings and supporting documentation like Centrelink statements, separation certificates from your job, etc, and we WILL HELP YOU. But if you just tell us you won't pay or you can't afford it and don't do anything to help us understand why, then all we can do is keep calling.

It comes down to you being honest.
