Text to update employment, income and contact details to keep account safe. There are no links to a website, just the instruction to call this number. We don't bank with Bank of Melbourne

I believe this to be a scam. No bank would ask for you to update your employment and income details to verify your identity.

Received an SMS on 5/12/2024 to verify my ID, update my employment, income and contact details. The message told me to do it online on their website or on their app and if I needed assistance, to call the phone number. It said it's important to confirm my details by 11/11/2024 but that time had gone. Just to make sure this wasn't from a scammer I called the main Bank SA phone number and they verified it was sent from them and is not a scam.

The message I receiver Werke via SMS and E-Mail, using my first Name. The message was very similar to the ones above. When I did not respond, i received the same message and E-Mail again after a week even though I reported this to St George Scam Watch. After reading all the comments above, I do believe this is scam. Who would ask for employment and wage details. I think that's already a give-away that this is scam. Will now block sender.

Hoping this might help someone.

Received a letter in the mail, this was the number to call. This is a legitimate number. It's the St George Secure ID team.

Refer to here:

https://www.stgeorge.com.au/online-services/security-centre/we-protect-you/id-secure

However in saying this, always be careful, scammers may try spoofing the number.

i got this sms and ignored it. until today, when the credit card and my 2 kids savings accounts werent shown on my stgeorge app, and the wife couldnt use the credit card or our joint account to get petrol this morning 3.10.25. i called st george up and they knew the issue, which is a re identification for all account holders and customer service person said it was coming up for alot of callers as i was on hold for 30 mins before i spoke to someone. they said i needed to call another number an identification team at stgeorge. i was weary about this, but as the customer service person from st george gave me the number i called it. the new customer service person i spoke to, went through all the id questions and secret questions and passwords i had to answer to verify myself. i was sooo sceptical about this and was nervous, but then she said i had to upload photo id, but it was through the stgeorge app so i felt a bit better. after all of this, my credit card account, 2 kids accounts were now visible in my stgeorge app, and i could transfer money from my joint account, so i then finally felt comfortable again that i wasnt giving my details away to a scammer as they had access to my stgeorge account........this does bring the conspiracy question of are we heading down the digital ID route and what else is about to come as the UK are now pushing for digital ID. this is the phone i range 1300 663 578 which is why i was googling as i was speaking to the customer service rep. hopefully this info helps someone. when in doubt, go to the bank itself.
