They are calling my wife everyday from 1300 557 820 and trying to scare her that she has done some crime. Is there any way such people can be prosecuted and sent to jail? Scam watch only watch these scammer to scam people. And have nothing to take for the innocent people.

a text to call ANNABEL and quote a reference. That is why I am looking it up here ... after getting a scam Tax threat message a couple of weeks ago.
My address is correct
I don't owe centerlink or any other government agency money, nor have I been overpaid.
This is a scam - beware

It's definitely legit. They called and I refused to give out my details. They then sent me a text which I ignored. I did however jump into myGov account and lo and behold I had an outstanding amount owing. Not the best way for the department to chase $ buts it's all above board.

This is not a scam number. 1300 557 820/">1300 557 820 is recoveriescorp ringing you about money you owe to the department of human services. Initially I thought it was a scam as they asked for my details over the phone after hours which I refused to give out. They then sent a text saying Please call SAHAN on 1300 557 820 and quote ref # I checked the letter I had from recoveriescorp. It had this reference number on my paperwork. I rang them back, it's legit.

This is a scam number!!!! NEVER give out your name, address or date of birth over the phone. Centrelink, medicare and tax agencies send out letters. They also use only two debt recovery agencies, d&b and recoverycorp; who's phone numbers are definately NOT anywhere like this 1300 557 820. IT IS A SCAM. DON'T CALL. Always contact government agencies from numbers listed numbers on their website or from the phone book.

I initially thought this was a scam phone call, and even at the last call received I out of character used a lot of profanities to get them off my back. Just in case, I rang the Centrelink and find out if I owed money. I had in fact been overpaid for family assistance. So it was a legit call. They had sent a letter to my old address, even though we changed our address, and our taxation details had our new address. Long story short. The government should cut red tape, stop being stupid about needing to confirm your identity when they use a third party to tell you you owe money.

What happened with the letter? Scam? I've just had a call from this number about the same thing, waiting on the letter.

Swati rang from a private number saying she needs to speak to me about a Dept of Human Services matter urgently and that I need to provide her with my name address & phone number. I refused as it smelt of scam & asked her for more info. She then SMS'd me from 0421 269 812 stating: 'Please call SWATI on 1300 557 820 and quote ref # blah'. Looked up the website, it has a different 1300 number, rang that & they refused to elaborate either & said they sent a letter but I won't receive it for a few days. Waiting for the letter with baited breath.

Yep I had a female call me saying that she was from the Dept of Human Services and that she needed me to carify over the phone who I was to continue the conversation. I replied with "you called me, what is this regarding?" Her response was "I cannot tell you until you prove who you are by giving me a 3 point ID check". I told her that there was no way I was going to giver her my personal details over the phone. Then she told me that she would send me an SMS with the Human Services contact number and my reference number: "Plese call Priyanka on 1300 557 820....ref..." Umm this is definately not how the Dept of Human Services contact people.

Have had 2 calls so far, one from a guy called Lars and another from a woman called Chris. Both had well spoken Australian accents. Unfortunately Lars did get my DOB, full name and address, but then said my surname didn't match his records so he hung up. 3 weeks later, the woman rang saying she was from the Dept of Human Services and asking for my CRN for identification purposes. When I asked where she was calling from, Centrelink or Medicare, she said debt recovery. She left me a number to call back on 1800 557 820. I did this after hours and got a recorded message with 2 options, one of which was to pay using a credit card! When I rang the real debt recoveries 1300 number (different to above) I got a message that the office was now closed and to call back after 9 in the morning. Scam? Yes! I have reported both incidents to Scamwatch and Centrelink. What I don't understand however, is why this number can't be traced to a physical location and identify the scammers, seeing the number has been in operation for more than a year. Just switch it off!

It is vital that you do not phone them back on a number they give you - unless you first check it on legitimate correspondence you have received recently. Never give your details to anyone over the phone unless you are absolutely sure they are legit. Scammers are getting very clever so take extra care.

You are absolutely correct. I have received a call from them too and then I called centrelink to check if I'm owing any amount to them. To my surprise, I owe money to centrelink and the amount has matched to what the recoveries corp rep has asked me to pay.

I got a call from anonymous number introducing themselves that she is from recoveries corp and I'm owing money to centrelink. They had my previous home address and current address too. First impression was like it is a scam. I've searched centrelink website and they have mentioned that 'recoveries corp' is an authorised agency to recover debts. - http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/owing-money

I will call to centrelink to confirm if I'm owing any money to them at all.

I called back the number they gave and gave them a fake middle name and they said it didn't match their records. I wouldn't give them my details so told them to send a letter out. They said they already sent a letter so i asked them to send another letter but they wouldn't unless i gave them my details. I told them not to ring me again. Indian scammers!

I received a call from Yamini, her mobile number is 0411 990 184 Her accent was so strong India. She asked me about my name, date of birth and said she from Department of Human Services (Centrelink). I required her to give me a message and I would call back to her. I am not in somebody's debt, so I think this is a scam. Because if Centrelink needs to see me for more information, they always send a message that I have to go to check mail online from Centrelink website.

I keep getting calls asking for my personal details to 'verify' who I am for security, which I won't do because I don't know them from a bar of soap... They sound very far away with strong Indian accents. They say they are from Dept Human Resources and that I owe money, but I have not had any correspondence or statements in the mail from Human Resources or centrelink or any other, to proof their claim. Is it a scam to pay money like the Nigerian bank scam?
