Said my tax file number had been suspended !! Voice sounded automated.

Called and hung up when I answered

Claimed it was the Australian Tax Office. I originally missed the call as I was on another call. When I called the number back, a man with a sub continental accent answered the phone. He did not introduce himself, only answered the phone as, " Hello, Australian Tax Office". The moment I heard this I hung up the phone.

Please remember the ATO only refers to themselves as the Australian Taxation (NOT Tax) Office. Another thing to note is that ATO will never call you, they will only ever send you a message on MyGov, Mail or possibly an email. You are always expected to call the ATO not the other way around.

Stay safe and DO NOT ever give out your personal details over the phone, especially not finance related.

I hope this stops at least one person from making a regrettable decision.

Said that my tax file number had been suspended and that I had a warrant out for my arrest. Needless to say, such a serious claim would not be handled by a robocall, so this is very obviously a scam, no one should volunteer any information or engage with this number.
