Caller: Male purporting to be Nathan from Telstra Related phone numbers (08) 7092 2589 and (02) 7251 9521 - yes (02). This attempted scam continued across 3 numbers in a space of 5 minutes.
I received a phone call on my mobile from a male purporting to be Nathan from Telstra on (08) 7092 2589. It was a call centre. The scammer stated that my internet would be disconnected as over the last 3 or 4 days, Telstra had detected that I was using the internet on a Public IP address and not a Private IP address. Had I made changes to my computer in the last few days. Without answering the question, I asked his full name and was provided with it. He continued asking the question - had I made changes to my computer and in relation to another question from me (about Telstra) - he stated wouldn't answer my question unless I answered his question. I stalled and he got increasingly agitated, and I then hung up. Immediately, I had a follow up phone call from him on the (02) 7251 9521 number - yes (02) instead of (08). His annoyance / anger continued - had I made changes to my computer and when it was clear that he was getting nowhere, I received a "Take care of yourself" and the "AFP will be notified". He then muttered that I was an idiot before hanging up. There had also been an attempt to ring me from (08) 7092 - 2501 with no message left whilst I was on the (02) call. I followed through with Telstra and yes, it is a SCAM. Reading some of the other experiences on these three numbers on the Reverse Australia website - SCAM 101. Yes, it is a SCAM.

Caller: Anita This number in South Australia called me today in Queensland. After I said, 'Hello' an animated Australian voice told me that I had purchased gift cards to the value of $998 on my visa card. Did I want to confirm or deny? Confirm press 1. Deny, press 2. I pressed 2, 'Anita' answered. Her broken English made it difficult for me to understand her. However, she told me I had purchased gift cards and now needed to pay the ANZ bank $998. I just began to laugh. She asked me why I was laughing. I told her the call was bullsh*t. That I had not purchased any gift cards and that I did not bank with the ANZ. She insisted I did and further insisted I pay $998. I laughed again, knowing full well it was a scam. I laughed. She asked me again why I was laughing. You're a scammer. Your English is deplorable. Do your research BEFORE you try to scam other people. I'll be blocking your number, I told her. She hung up on me.

This call showed as coming from Adelaide, SA. When I answered there was a short silence, then the caller hung up. From looking at the previous comments, I feel sure that this was an attempted scam call.
