A man with a convincing English accent called me claiming to be from Cybersecurity. He said they had arrested someone and found my details on their devices. He knew one of my email addresses and correctly mentioned the suburb I live in, although he couldn’t provide my exact address.

He started asking about cryptocurrency, including whether I had a Binance account, and gave me a case reference number, asking me to write it down and repeat it back to confirm. I asked him to repeat the reference number himself so I could verify I had written it correctly, but he refused and hung up.

The number displayed on my phone was (08) 6835 6702 with “Walyurin” as the location, which appears to be a town in Western Australia when checked on Google Maps.
