FAKE MICROSOFT I clicked on a facebook advert. My screen froze & was replaced by what looked like a microsoft help page with this number featured. It had a repeated audio message saying I must call the number so that I could be 'talked through' a fix. It was quite a scary happening.I called the number & a pre-recorded message said to call back in office hours! At this point I closed my computer, restarted & scanned it. I usually scan every night & only normally have a handful of adware cookies for deletion (if at all). This time there were 38. Fingers crossed no more harm done.

Have had this scam 3 times now. Just turn off your computer (the normal way; leave the wall switch alone!) and reboot. Good idea to run a scan also.

Exactly the same thing happened to me as Marie. Complete closure of all open windows, with a blue alert dialogue and audio saying to call the number for Windows Microsoft Tech Support. A rude Indian man remotely controlled by computer and kept me waiting for half an hour whilst he searched my files/data. When he asked for $US1,000 for spyware, and I said I couldn't afford it, he deleted everything and got angry. I pulled my internet connection out and called Microsoft who alerted me to the scam.

hard to kill screen pops up saying I have 5 minutes to call (08) 6244 1200 as hackers have all my credit card details, photos, etc. and my PC will be disabled if I don't comply. Just turn off and reboot fixes it.

Definately a scam. They try to keep you talking for as long as possible so they can invade your computer for information. I had to pull the plug out of the computer to shut it down, as they wouldn't allow me to shut it down..................
