I called back and spoke to "John" who said he was from Pioneer Credit and wanted to know if I knew someone with the same surname as me (I didn't). He was perfectly polite and confirmed in a roundabout way that he had called me just because my surname matched the person he was seeking. Consistent with the idea that he was chasing a bad debt or similar

I received a call from John - saying he was calling from a company in Perth - we had poor reception and it was difficult to hear - however he asked if I knew a Steven Walsh - as I could not hear clearly I asked what company he was calling from - thinking it was one of those scam calls - he said he couldn't tell me the company name - thanked me for my time and wished me a nice day. Very polite chap.
I read the above comment that this number belongs to Pioneer Credit - sounds correct by my experience just now. :)

Wanted to know if I knew a guy called ‘Brett’ who lived on a street that I no longer live on. Assuming it’s a bad credit chasing co. But seriously? Super weird way to conduct business.
