Caller: An Indian scammer Without realizing purported Microsoft pop-up warnings on my desktop computer were a scam, I rang a 1800 number which routed to an Indian call centre with an incredibly bad line. Discontinuing the call, I was then contacted by an Indian man who gave his name as Steve Williams and was ringing from (07) 5641 0813. He pretended to be a Microsoft employee and tried to extract financial information from me with the aim of stealing $2,000 from my credit card for a "Woolworths gift card". Very indistinct background chatter when he was talking to me sounded like Hindi or Punjabi or possibly Bengali (I speak Hindi).
