I too gave my address and DOB, should know better as it is best way for identity theft, this is all they need. I have checked the company online and all seems ok, the caller I spoke to said my details did not tally with the information he had and asked for my mobile no by which time I had had enough. I do not owe anyone any money but my name is a common one.

they said they were a company called CMA, and after a person who has same surname with my family...but the first name was totally different,,,, Do they just attempt to call someone who has same surname with their target?

This one is definitely a scam, trying to obtain personal information. I've never had an account with Amex and they still want to ask me for DOB, address, etc.

Absolute scam! A guy with an Idian accent claimed that he's calling from AMEX asking for my name and date of birth. No legitimate company or organization would do that over the phone, only stupid scammers would try that. It's quite disturbing however. I hope that no one is naive enough to fall for their trick.

Despite them being advised that I have been bankrupted, they continue to hound me for payment. There should be a law against that kind of thing. Thick as two bricks they are.

This is a legitimate debt collecting agency as they have been chasing my ex who owes tens of thousands to Amex (and ripped me off for 10 grand as well) and they are trying to recoup Amex's losses by people defaulting on their credit cards. Yes they are an Indian call centre which can be very difficult to understand but they are definitely not scamming anyone or anything they are just chasing what is rightfully owed to Amex. In my ex's case he has just gone to ground and lives in a van in northern nsw and has absolutely no intention of repaying his debts to them - so I reckon if you are getting calls from them or someone in your family is then you owe Amex (someone else said Optus as well uses them. And whether we like it or not off shore call centres are the way of the world - get used to it.
