I have a feeling that this is a legitimate call in regards to insurance. I had missed the call but when I checked my email I have been sent documentation in regards to an accident that I witnessed.

Indian gentleman called Raj wanting to speak to me about my recent incident. Knew my name and phone details. Wanted to record the call but need to verify my identity first by requesting personal details.
My response was "since you are calling me you must verify your details and not the other way around, thank you and good bye!"
I am not insured with AAMI so was very hesitant to divulge any of my details.

The number is AAMI. Asked the usual - for me to confirm ID. Refused and said email me. I won't even confirm who am I these days. They did send the email about a current claim I have. They probably use the call centre for many purposes so even knowing I had a current claim with them I wouldn't confirm ID over the phone. And scammers do use the fact that a tiny percentage of their calls will match someones current circumstances enough to ring true. The email gave me a direct number to call that isn't on the AAMI website so no calling that - I went through the 13 number and it was all good. I miss the simpler days.

This was a genuine call from AAMI. I recently made a claim for damage to my car and when I called back they told me they're refunding some of the money as the cost of repair was less than the excess. So it can pay to follow up on calls from this number :D

Sounds legit but they have to get with the times and stop asking for personal details over the phone. Especially in this day and age of identity theft and scams. Best to stick to emails

Received a call from this number with caller id as AAMI Insurance. Didn't answer as I don't have any insurance with AAMI. While reading comments on this site, I receive an email from GIO wanting me to call them as they couldn't reach me on my mobile. For me this was a legit call regarding my claim.

The lady who called me is from India and tried to steal the accident information from me. They know who caused the accident and have my phone number. I am wondering where did they get the information.

Called twice. I divert all calls to an unused mobile phone where the number is displayed and recorded. If it's someone I know I call back.
The only AAMI number I'm aware of is 13 22 44 and they only have my mobile number.

This is absolutely a scam. I had two of these calls about 2 weeks apart. Both times the caller said that they were from AAMI and asked me to confirm my details. Both times I told them that they were going to have to identify themselves first, and their response was "we will send you a letter instead". After the second call I then called AAMI (who I used to have an insurance policy with) via 13 22 44 and they said that neither call was from them.

Got a call from this number, at first I didn’t understand what he was saying, he was talking very quickly with a thick Indian accent. There was a pause after answering that made me assume it was an international call even thought the number is listed as Queensland. He told me the call was being recorded, I told him to stop recording since I had no association with the company (after a quick Google search). I was firm and he told me he would call back from a different number. 5 minutes later he calls me back on the same number, leading me to assume this was cyphened from a different number to just one number to mask it. He asked for my details in regards to an incident. I told him I hadn’t been in any car accidents, he asked for my details to do a search I told him I wouldn’t give them to him. It’s obviously a data trolling call, after refusing to give him what he wanted he got crusted and annoyed at me. This is definitely scammer behaviour. They’ve just gotten a hold of a legitamte number and are pretending to be from these companies to get your information or money. There may have been a data leak somewhere as I recently got an scan email claiming to be from SunCorp as well so it appears to be doing the rounds at the moment.

Claimed to be from GIO. Said the call will be recorded. Asked for personal details "to confirm your identity". At that stage I said, "you called me. I don't give out that information on the phone and hung up".

Recent AAMI Claim (sh/be called an Accident Report) lodged re very minor accident on 3/11. I have TPO Ins with AAMI. The other vehicle's owner is insured through Allianz. Advised receptionist I was unable to pay the $650 Excess during that telephone call, and requested payment be delayed pending outcome of cost of repairs to other vehicle, and if I was considered liable, then I would pay the applicable amount for cost of repairs or the Excess whichever was the lesser. A few days later, I completed an AAMI Satisfaction Survey on-line, in response to an emailed request, answering questions about my perceptions of how the receptionist handled my initial call reporting the minor accident. Am still waiting for a reply to questions I raised in my answers where I asked about whether or not the claim was being contested (if so, then apparently each party pays for their own car repairs). Refuse to reply call interstate at STD rates.

This one is legit. I have a claim in with AAMI and it was about details of that claim in my favour. It pays sometimes to check the number and correctly identify.
