I had the same person call me, asked me for my personal details which i refused to give out and then the Indian guy got angry, he then hung up and lept calling.
I reported it to my provider Telstra who have put a trace for a month on my phone so if they ring again it will be tracked and taken further to the legal authorities

They rang my 92 year old grandmother to sell her a plan. Obviously calling through a router of some sort to display a Brisbane number. Checked their website and no one in their right mind would sign up to those plans. It is not Optus but a reseller, like Amaysim but worse

Vince I had the same experience as yourself. I also called my provider and they gave me this tip.
TIP - Do not talk when you receive a call from a number that you do NOT know OR a Private Number. If you say anything, i.e. Hello, Who is this etc., they will keep calling.
It is well within your rights to ask who they are and the name of the company that they are legally representing. At the risk of sounding racist, the Indian call centre training teaches them to simply keep talking as they cannot handle confrontation. NOTE - They will lie and claim that they are calling from the Taxation Office of Australia, NOT realising that 99% of Australians know the acronym ATO. They will also claim that they are the CES ... again, not realising that Centrelink has been in existence for 20 years.

REALLY IMPORTANT - do NOT confirm ANY PERSONAL DETAIL including your name, full name, your phone number, address etc. REMEMBER< any information that they can verify they get rewarded for and your details are passed onto at least 10 other call centres world-wide. Do not fall for the personal greeting e.g. Hey Con, how are you? I have had a Canadian call me on a Sunday morning in February 2017 using this ploy! I almost fell for it even though I had just woken up. They called me on at 7:18 a.m. as they did this morning

Yep, called and insisted I was a loyal optus customer who's spent over $1000. I told them I wasn't an optus customer and that I was on the do not call register. He didn't seem to know what this register was. I think scam too.

I just had this guy call me too offering a cheaper deal and new phone but then proceed to ask me questions he should know the answer to if he really was from Optus. I phoned the number back and he just answered " hello" no professional Optus greeting and started to back peddle when I challenged him, when I said I was outside the Optus shop and going in to check this out he hung up.

Indian-accent caller claimed to be from Optus and was offering me upgrades for having that phone number for a long time. Did not know any of my details or contract length etc so hung up. Didn't know my name.

Dodgy sounding call centre. Called offering new phone for loyalty. I have a company phone on a corporate account. Hung up at that point

Caller (sounded like a call centre) didn't identify where he was from but said that because I had been using my mobile number for some time I was entitled to a discount on my contract. I hung up at that point.

Scammer. Full of it. Very funny though with the lies he was trying to tell me. Was costing me money after 5 minutes, so I hung up on him.

Scammer masquerading as Telstra but later Optus. Got abusing when I asked for his name, location, company and supervisor. Swore and abused me when I said that I will report to relevant authority for harrassment and the call was costing him time.

Block the number and report to police as harrassment.

Called. Didn't leave message. Seeing as I'm in an 02 area code and this is my business line I blocked them with CPR Call blocker. Time wasters don't get a second chance. They get the simulated Fax machine now. Screw them all!
