Their system randomly calls numbers to find out if these are active or not. Once they have a complete database, they then sell it to telemarketers and scammers.
Chances are if you answered or tried to call the number back, you number will be recorded as a live and active number and you will likely receive many unwarranted calls in the coming days or weeks.
