A girl called Sarah called me on behalf of boorodara council asking about sports facilities. Took some details on family size etc but questions about sports locations and ground facilities seemed legit. Genuine call

I’d like to comment about the previous comment mentioned about the SA Water survey. I’d like to confirm that I was the interviewer behind this survey and just to make things clear, interviewers do not create or write the surveys. Their (my) job is to read from the screen based on what the client/researcher has prepared for us. However, I do understand as an interviewer (who hopes to do research in the future) that there are questions such as the estimate of the business ‘turnover’ for research/statistic purposes and demographic reasons. This question was asked in this survey because SA Water wanted to understand how much water businesses use depending on the size of their businesses whether it’s small, medium or large. They measure out the businesses turnover in comparison to how much they pay for water bills. Also, the question asked was “roughly” the amount the business turns over , such as between $50-$100k, $200k-$500, $800-$1mil plus. The respondent (like yourself) also has the option to not answer the question and say ‘prefer not to answer’, and I usually prompt that option if the respondent doesn’t want to answer it. If you understood research, you’d understand that these starting questions are for statistical analyses purposes only. I understand there are heaps of scammers out there and it’s hard to trust who’s on the other end of the phone line, particularly when such a question is asked at the beginning of a survey. I can assure you, if the person says their name, says what company they are calling from and which client they are doing it for and have an ID number then you can trust the call. Or if you still feel suspicious about the survey, you can just write down the name of the company the person is calling from and check their website OR/AND you can contact the client of the research to confirm. I think you should’ve contacted SA Water to confirm as-well. If you would’ve continued, I would’ve also given you the contact number of the customer service manager at SA Water. Usually the interviewer may have a URL link you can visit or a number they can give to you. I’m still using the same number to call, so you can still report as much as you’d like, but nothing happens as the company I work for has to comply with the ESOMAR and AMSR policy codes.

Rang at dinner time. Cold call without respecting the time and privacy of others. I would block this number.
If this is a survey company, find ethical ways to recruit survey participants

Rang our business phone number claiming to be doing Covid 19 Business Survey on behalf of SA Water. I disconnected the call after they asked for our 2018-19 turnover amount. What would that have to do with water usage?!
