Terminate with extreme prejudice
Posted on January 29, 2024 Caller type: Scam call Location: Australia
Caller: Indian scammer Phone rang. Answered. There was a significant pause before anybody came on line. Caller with Indian accent says he is from NBN and there has been a fault detected on my modem. When asked for further details, he says it is with the DNS, and do I have a computer or laptop connected. Obvious criminal activity. Was told I have not problems with my NBN and he was a scammer. Told to stop calling me and other people. He hanged up.

There's been a plethora of scam callers lately, but this is different to the Visa/Ebay recorded messages than come in multiple times per day. To expand a little on what 'Terminate with extreme prejudice' said above, this was clearly a scam caller calling from a call centre, and although they left no message (I have a very terse and confusing message on my message bank that always makes callers pause!), I could hear the people in the background discussing "faults." I once let one of these callers go through their schtick for about 15 minutes, and he desperately tried to get me to give him remote access to my computer. I wasted as much of his time as I could, pretending that I couldn't find the systems folders/files that he was trying to direct me to, and eventually told him in no uncertain terms that I was not going to oblige a scammer. He had the temerity to call back and try again, protesting that he was really from my provider (he wasn't) so beware - these people will try as hard as possible to compromise your computer and gather all of the account information that is stored on it. Terminating the call with extreme prejudice is indeed the best thing to do.

This is a scam call. When you answer the phone, there is a Visa/Mastercard recorded message claiming that there has been a "suspicious" recent transaction from Amazon. I hung up and blocked this number.

Caller: Indian Man from 'Telstra' Delay in responding when I picked up the phone. Thick Indian accent saying he was from Telstra and had identified 'unauthorised activity' on my account, could hear other Indian accents in the background.
