Rang the landline rang 5-6 times and hung up. No message left on answering machine. UNKOWN CALLER

Called my mothers mobile on 23/01/2026 at 11:45am (AEST)
After answering and saying “Hello?”, They immediately said “Goodbye” in a robotic sounding voice and hung up. Never received a call back.

I suspect the call was an automated (Active Number Validation Scam)
Once you say anything, even just saying "Hello," the system logs your number as active. This verified data is sold to other scam networks which can lead to increased amount of fake/scam calls.

Personally I use both Telstra and Malwarebytes Scam & Spam protections for both calls and texts. Telstra will block known malicious phone number before they can even reach your phone and Malwarebytes will notify you of any scam calls or messages that make it past Telstra’s system.

Phone Service shows this call as Potential Fraud - Persistent Buggers... Have tried to call me 3 times since Friday 20/02/2026. Hopefully they get the hint and stop calling me! 😡

Same happened to me several times!

I answered 'hello' was a pause for 5 seconds, no response, hence I hung up.

They called at 9am.Phone picked it as a SCAM CALL. They also used a similar number the other day but also blocked. Watch out for the lots of 8s in the number.

I got a call from this number I answered said Hello & they hung up so yes scam 🤨

This number rang and left a message - sounded asian - could not understand what was said - so presume it is a scam.
