text message from this number informing me I was about to be surveyed by the SRCentre regarding safety and crime in my area. It asked me to opt in or out and tell them my age. It added a link to click. Supposedly on behalf of the police. If it is genuine, the police and crime studies people should know better.

Funny that they claim to be conducting a study on crime when the Spam Act 2003 itself defines spam as criminal!

Caller: supposedly the srccenter I don't know what to call it, maybe it really is a survey for the crime in this area as the sms just prompted me. But as the previous Anonymous said, They should know better. It was set up exactly like the scams I've received from fake Linkt or Medicare or trading professionals or financial advisors, life insurance providers, or my power company or... or... or... the list is extensive of people these scams claim to be so I just err on the side of safety and just don't respond to any sms or click on any links, I don't answer numbers I don't know and I don't call back or give these unknowns to me any time what-so-ever. If this were a true survey I would respond that the most prevalent thing that endangered the safety of property and persons in my home in the last few years by a larger percentile is online/phone phishing and scams.

Caller: someone supposedly claiming to be from SR Centre sms received from some survey centre about satisfaction with policing in my state or territory. Supposedly this happens every year according to sms. NEVER heard from this organisation before. Seems suss to me, blocked and deleted. If is legit, then Police, or whoever is organising these needs to up their game. We have been warned about scammers by sms etc. Checked web site out, but no way of telling if is legit.

Received the text message as saying it was a survey someone would ring me about soon. When checking the website https://srcentre.com.au/research-participants/ and putting in the phone number, it says it doesn’t belong to the S R Centre.

Yet checking this number on the Social Research Centre website to which you have provided a link results in the number not belonging to this organization.

The exact message on my phone reads: This is a message on behalf of the police in your state or territory. The Social Research Centre will call you shortly to take part in an important study on safety and crime in your area. Reply '1' if you are 18+, '2' if you are under 18 or '3' to opt out. For more info visit www.srcentre.com.au/nscsp. I agree that this feels like a scam. I hope this is not from the police with so many scams out there. Very poor taste and unprofessional if it is from them. Beware all.

This message *looks* like a scam - and 99% of the time these types of texts are a scam - however this is actually an official number for the Social Research Centre (joint initiative with the Australian National University) which conducts surveys on behalf of the government and government agencies. Feel free to check their official numbers on their website: https://srcentre.com.au/research-participants

This number appears on the website of the research conductors as an authorised phone number: 'https://srcentre.com.au/research-participants' Searching 'nscsp' part of the dodgy link on that website brings up info from the 2017 project. Bit suspect as the page was published in 2017 (6 years ago). The project information says that: 'Your telephone number has been chosen at random from all possible telephone numbers in your area'. Looks like a convincing scam. If the police are finding the research, I bet they get piss poor results. In this day and age, I don't know how a survey company can think an unsolicited sms is a good way to get willing participants.
