Caller: Scammer using Text Message

Claiming that they were my son and was updating their contact details.

Confirmed this was not the case and have blocked this number.

Caller: 0480 031 617

Text message said “Hi mum I changed my provider. Temporarily using this number till I get my old one back. Let me know if you received this message,”
I didn’t respond… thought it could have been a real mistake but they would realise soon enough. My instinct said scam. Looks like I was right. Blocked!

Caller: No-one, messaged and used whatsapp

They messaged me pretending to be my son but I only have a brother and should have known then it was a scam but added them to WhatsApp as they asked as they were changing phone providers (thinking it was my brother) they asked for money for an after pay invoice that needed to be paid and I said no. Realised it was a scam as no one would answer the number and finally got onto my brother who has not changed phone providers. Did not give them any details and nothing has been affected so far. I should have known it was a scam from the beginning so hopefully this helps someone else not add the to WhatsApp.

SCAM!

This scammer used WhatsApp to swindle a vulnerable retired woman of thousands of dollars by pretending to be her son.

He tricked her into sending the funds to a bank already under federal investigation in Germany for its co-operation in money laundering.
