Vounteer community group in Newcastle
Posted on June 18, 2019 Caller type: Unknown Location: Australia
Caller: Young man. Affected way of speaking - exaggerated annunciation. "hello, can I have just a minute of your time?" was how it started. Affected way of speaking - strange exaggerated annunciation. Asked for "agreement" to put a 'Bronze' advert in a booklet to go with a Neighbourhood Watch and Police education program about drugs and sex education for schools. I am generally concerned that any entity would be asking for funding from community groups or businesses for such a schools program instead of the Government. So I asked who was employing him for this canvassing. He said "the Publisher" of the booklet. I said I can't make decisions on behalf of my community group and would have to take it to my group at next meeting and could he please send me an email about it as he's vague and not giving enough detail. eg. are you asking for money? how much is he seeking for the advert? "Three hundred for the bronze advert with logo support" But he said something weird like "oh the formatting of the emails is really difficult". And said he just wanted agreement now and permission to call back later. Weird. Will flag as SPAM after reading this. I'll let the Police / Neighbourhood Watch know. And will resume my practice of not answering unfamiliar numbers.

As per most here, called for the business owner, which is me, talked about Neighbourhood watch program and donating to support the local schools around my suburb. Let him go on while I googled the number - saw this - then asked him exactly which local schools the support would be going to. Couldn't name any surprisingly enough. Didn't even have a crack at *Suburb* State School. Had missed a call a few minutes earlier from 0478 286 002, a number which has the same type of reports. Rang it back but doesn't take calls.

Caller: Said his name was Con Man saying his name was Con called. Said he was from Neighborhood Watch and wanted a donation. Mentioned my business name. I was unable to call the number back. This followed a strange incident the night before where a lady tried to watch me enter my PIN number when paying for a meal. She followed me out of the establishment and seemed to take a photo of my car registration.

A young sounding guy asking me if I could donate to raise funds for something in (he mentioned the town I live). He sounded smooth & convincing but it felt a bit odd so I looked it up here. I will block this number.
