Caller: Ashley Smith Hi all,
Also received the same text message as above.
“Where is it located at the moment? Final asking price? Why are you selling it? Does it need anything to be replaced or repaired? I'm cool with the condition as described on the advert. I work on a remote mine site presently. and the reception is terrible. We do not have access to a phone at the moment, which is why I contacted you with an internet messaging facility.
Regarding the payment,i will be paying you through PayPal linked up with my Nab bank account, please get back to me with your PayPal details so i can process the payment, you can alternatively send your bsb acct name and number if you have no PayPal acct.
I have also contacted my courier who will come to pick up and deliver it to my place in Darwin after the whole fund has been cleared into your account. As regards the papers, all I will need is a receipt, the rego will have to be done in NT Darwin at my place of residence, so there will be no use for the existing Reg and RWC and i can buy it Unregistered.

Caller: Ashley Smith Scam email and message from a person claiming to be interstate and wanting to buy my car advertised on Carsales. They offered PayPal payment without inspection or any questions asked and also offered to organise a courier to take it to Darwin. As if. Next step would be paying me extra and giving me a false PayPal receipt and asking me to pay the courier because they have no reception. After I fall for that I would realise that the PayPal receipt was fake. LOL

Did not have a call but direct email from “Ashley “, outside of the Car Sales communication Chanel what immediately triggered my suspicion. It was in December 2022 and exactly that same story like others described. Poor reception, prepay transportation, and so on. Knowing that it is scam I had a lot of fun, I drag Ashley for few days until the point when I used his technique agains him and he realised that I am having a fun.

Thanks for the alert everyone - got the text from "carsales" and googled ashleysmitth73 (the latest email address it seems) and this page was the only hit. Saves me the effort of the email exchange before finding out it's a scam.
