Had two calls in two days claiming from Telstra technical department first was a Private Number (telstra don,t use) second from 0459 877 377, for proof of ID I asked them to quote my account number and was told they didn't have it in this department ! ! thus I told them to bugger off (plus a few more unrepeatable comments.

I was at my daughter’s place when she got several calls. I recognized the number as they’ve called my joint a few times. I decided to string them along. I’m posting this to help others by letting them see their MO. The opening line is rhey’re From Telstra and their monitoring shows large number of line errors. OK I say, but how do I know you’re from Telstra? Good question is the reply. They get me to check a field on the PC and they read out the numbers of the field and tell me only Telstra could know those numbers! I ask them why don’t they confirm my identity etc. They blow past that. By the way, the numbers they quoted are static numbers - same on every PC - I’m an old IT guy! Following this I am transferred to a “technical specialist” who is going to help me. This new person then talks me through some commands to look up an error log on the PC. There are hundreds of error messages. - there generally are in these logs, it’s quite normal. Specialist then tells me “that’s terrible” but he can fix the problem by logging into my machine. OK I say, then he asks me to download some software called TeamViewer. TeamViewer is something I use several times a month so I’m familiar with what it can do. It’s powerful software and you should never instal it unless you are 100% sure of the person that asks you. At this time Its gone far enough. I tell him about my IT background and that I’ve been stringing him along. He wasn’t happy. I told him that’s how people feel when he wastes their time trying to con them.

Have had several missed calls over the past week from 0459 877 377 but happened to answer one just now. Identified himself as Telstra and that my internet account would be blocked for a month. I asked why but didn't wait for an answer I told him that he was a scammer and then I hung up. I suggest that everyone hang up immediately.

Caller: Some Indian accent guy.

I asked him which country he was from rather than saying hello, and he said "You tell me", so I explained that I had a silent number and to take my number off his list. At that he gave up before any spiel was possible. Great way to answer these unknown numbers - "What country are you from?" - seems to confound them.

Lady claimed to be from some internet technical team, lots of back ground noise. Advised my internet would be affected for two days. Wanted to alert me to hackers on my computer by bringing up some hack report. Called her out on the call being scam, she asked what proof I had of this call being a scam and before I could answer she hung up.

Rang my companion, 91yo woman with dementia wheras msg from telstra advised that no msg left at Telstra 101 number. These bastards have created enormous concern therefore why are they still capable of calling "random?" Australian numbers????Have had the bastards call myself also which alerted me to their "helpful assistance " with my computer's problems. Whatever happened to IT Security in this country as very simple to block this number from O'seas source?

On 30/5/2018 in the afternoon I received a phone call from the above phone No. (claiming from Telstra, a lady with Indian accent) regarding my internet connection. It's a scam. How come I still can receive a phone call from such criminal, although my phone No. is registred with "Do not call"?

I answered the phone to this moron today & he told me he was from Telstra & there was a problem with my internet connection & asked if I was aware of it. As I had read about this scam online I told him I didn't have an internet connection & he hung up. I've had a silent number for over 20 yrs AND I'm on the do not call register. I think they just pluck numbers out of the air. IDIOTS!!!!!

Claimed to be Telstra phoning to say there had been problems with my internet (there haven't been any problems and I'm not with Telstra Internet). He told me Telstra own all of the lines so it didn't matter that I wasn't with Telstra, so I asked him to tell me who my provider was if he had information that there had been problems. Needless to say he didn't have that information. Tried to string him along longer as was having fun winding him up, but eventually got bored. Then the same number tried to call 20 minutes later....I didn't answer!

Same deal , "Telstra technician" calling . Obviously from the subcontinent . Couldn't tell me who he was calling ( on my silent number for ~ 15 years ) so he got his " supervising manager " who couldn't tell me who he was calling either . Hung up on him , then got 4 call backs ! Last one was abusive .
