Dear Sir/Madam,
Vandalism of a Private Trees - 3a Bassett Street Hurstville
Georges River Council (Council) is aware that 1x Jacaranda mimosifolia (the tree), situated at the property known as 3a Bassett Street, Hurstville has recently been damaged.
The tree is protected under the Hurstville Development Control Plan 1. Please be aware that it a criminal offence to damage trees that are protected under a development control plan, whether or not a tree is on private or public land. State Environmental Planning Policy (Vegetation in Non-Rural Areas) 2017 provides that a person cannot cut down, fell, uproot, kill, poison, ring bark, burn or otherwise destroy vegetation (including trees) without first obtaining a permit from Council.
Council is intent on protecting trees in the local government area, and will prosecute persons who damage trees without the authority of a permit.
Council is currently investigating the damage to the tree, including looking at any available video footage. If you are able to assist Council, please contact 9330 6400.
