Received a text from this mobile number.

TEXT READ:
"It's time to book. Annual smoke alarm service by Detector Inspector is now due for (my address). Book now at detc.in/4MExbh or call on 85475812"

My smoke detectors are check every 6 months by me and work fine. I don't know if this is a scam or not but I'm not clicking on any link in text or calling any number that looks dodgy.

Keep getting messages from this number who call themselves DETECTOR INSPECTOR every time you give them available time to inspect your smoke alarm it doesn't suit them. You ring the number and you can't be connected. A total scam and an extremely un professional company. Don't allow this company at your property and we highly recommend report them to the police

SMS received saying

Reminder: tomorrow. As outlined in our letter Detector Inspector will pick up a key from Hore & Davies. For info (02) 9657 4290 or detc.in/segqny
Please note> if you are self-isolating due to COVID-19 or experiencing flu-like symptoms, please request a reschedule.

Prior that I received another similar message 2 weeks ago, ignored that too as it clearly is scam. Do NOT follow links in those SMS.

Smoke detector inspection notice message blocked

Benefit of doubt
For a moment let's assuming this is a genuine message. It looks like that this company fail to update property occupants' contacts details before sending messages. Can this company be trusted with such practice?

This company was organised through my real estate agent to come and service my electricity and smoke detectors. They send random contractors out. After the so called inspector haf left we noticed our possessions had been stolen BEWARE

Caller: Carl from Detector Inspector

Shocked to read these other comments as the SMS the number sent and replied to looked extremely legitimate. SMS provided exact details of the real estate agent and my current rental address. Called my real estate agent who knew of ‘detector inspector’ but said the appointment the SMS requested had nothing to do with them and was from the building manager. ‘Carl’ said a technician would be in contact with me to make a booking for me to let them in, saying my smoke alarm needed inspection again. But that was over 2 wks ago and still haven’t heard from them, which is the reason I checked the number now along with being anxious because I got back after they wanted to inspect and something had moved last I saw it.
Luckily did not touch the links but I still got legit looking replies when I texted back. Now worried about how they got a hold of my address.

A mandatory safety check has been scheduled at your property on 07/04/22, between 12:00 - 15:00.
It is essential that someone is home at this time and if any change is required, that you contact us urgently on 9021 6160.

Reverse up lookup puts detc.in as a likely VPN/TOR/proxy essentially an anonymizer.

My real estate contacts me about anything like this directly, so either scam or unethical company trying to scare people into purchasing their services.

Caller: Detector Inspector = SCAM

Legitimized scam with somewhat questionable tactics. Tenants or Landlord alike, BEWARE! This is not a legitimate business transaction- do not allow this business to make you believe they need to check your fire alarms/smoke detectors, don’t give any private information to them. If it was a legitimate transaction they would have your information from the real estate, & you’d be expecting their call. Don’t speak to them believe you me any transaction requests that are required will always be actioned first through your real estate agent directly to you if you are a renter. This is a fairly clever scam I believe because it seems somewhat legitimate initially until you realise it’s not.

“ Detector Inspector will service the Smoke Alarms on 31/08/21 for YPA Bacchus Marsh. A letter has been sent. More info (03) 9021 6160 or detc.in/S3zM29 For information on how we're keeping you safe - COVID19 Plan: bit.ly/2P4Czph”

Don’t select any of their links. This is a scam.
Don’t let anyone in your house as this is currently against lockdown restrictions in VIC,NSW and ACT
