This IS A LEGITIMATE WESTPAC contact number.
I personally called Westpac. I went through their security process and after being placed on hold whilst the operator checked, he confirmed that it is indeed a LEGITIMATE Westpac text asking customers to protect against scams by not sharing your SMS Codes.
The texts have NO LINKS and don't ask for you to contact them.
If you think that I am a scamner, ring Westpac yourself and check with them.

I was asked to confirm a payment which I had NOT done - looks legitimate, but is NOT A WESTPAC verification. Also given 2 security codes to approve online transaction - I had NOT DONE any online transactions. Another SMS "Help us protect you against scams by not sharing your Westpac Protact SMS Codes - ALSO A SCAM. I spent an hour with my bank yesterday and was told that these are ALL SCAMS and NOT SENT BY WESTPAC. Don't be fooled - if you receive one of these messages and are concerned - call Internet Fraud 1300 364 294 / 2 / 2
This number, like many other "mobile" numbers are most probably VoiP.

Just received an SMS stating "Help us protect you against scams by not sharing your Westpac Protect SMS codes."
I have a Westpac account but no "protect sms code."
There was no link or any explanation as to why I was sent this.
Weird!

I have had messages from this number a few times - Westpac bank manager said it is a hoax as the bank DOES NOT send out messages such as these.. It is probably an SMS service attached to a business (? legitimate or otherwise) which comes up as a mobile number but these numbers cannot be returned. Usually the message will require a Y or N which the number accepts. Thinking that this was my GPs surgery number for reminders, I kept the number in my contacts, but to my surprise I received a message from my financial adviser's office with the SAME numbers. Businesses pay for this to be attached to their computer systems and it goes through a third party, hence the different numbers from different firms. Hope that helps.

The number came up saying it was ATO requesting Tax file number confirmation. Spoke to my bank and blocked/deleted.

Yes it is a scam. I do not have any account with 'Panorama' at Westpac. In fact I do not even bank with them!
