Caller: Shurman The Call That Shouldn’t Have Happened
It started with an unremarkable ring. 0447 466 088. A random number. Probably a robocall, but curiosity won. The call was answered.
"Hello?"
A woman’s voice, smooth yet strangely hesitant. "Hi, is this—um—speaking?" A beat. "My name’s Nic. Or, well, Nicole."
There was something off. Too rehearsed. Too uncertain.
"I’ve got your resume here," she continued, her tone shifting into a confident sales pitch. "I wanted to chat with you about an exciting opportunity in career coaching."
A pause.
Resume?
That was the first red flag. There hadn’t been any applications, no uploads, no inquiries about coaching.
"Where did you get my resume?"
A silence, just long enough to confirm something was wrong.
"Oh, from a job portal… not sure which one exactly," she said quickly. "But you seem like someone who could really benefit from this."
The second red flag. The words felt generic, copy-pasted. Like a phishing email, but with a human voice.
"Not interested," came the reply, firm but polite. "And you shouldn’t have my resume. Which company are you calling from?"
Another pause. Too much thinking.
"I’m just trying to help," Nic said, her voice taking on an edge. "This could be a great opportunity for you."
Nope. The unease was now a full-body feeling. This wasn’t just a scam—it was something worse.
The call ended. The number was blocked. But the questions remained.
