received sms from this number - about mini breaks more often with a competition. I googled it and it comes up looking like RACV but says 404 cannot find.... blocked number!

Got a text that said: "Hi (name). It's easy to pay your RACV Home Insurance policy HOMXXXXXXXXX online. Simply click [long link given] and follow the steps, or you can call us on 1300 259 747. If you recently paid, please disregard this. To opt out send STOP to 0427 767 870."

I could not find the 1300 number or mobile number on the RACV web site so I telephoned RACV to find out if this was a scam or if they had a typo mistake in one of their customer records that ended up being my mobile number.

This was not a scam. The HOMXXXXXXX policy given in the sms was a real policy number and the first name in the text was indeed the policy owner's first name.

RACV deleted my phone number from that account record. So if you get a similar text it means someone has made an error when they typed in a mobile number. Ignore it or call RACV and tell them to fix it.

Received SMS spam that claims to be from RACV, but mention of $$ prize, suspect looking URL, and a request to opt-out via SMS to this number makes this smell like a scam. At very least this looks like an attempt to bill a premium SMS service to you.
