Caller type: Scam call
Location: Australia
Caller: 0418 384 753

Just received a call on my mobile from this number 0418 384 753 advising that my NBN connection/service will be disconnected for a period of three months.

The reason for this according to the caller which was a male with Asian accent, the NBN network had been compromised.

I was then asked if I wanted to keep the connection/service or have it disconnected!

I immediately caught on that this was a scam call and asked what I would have to do to keep my NBN connection.

The operator asked me what phone phone I was using, android or iPhone.

I queried why it would matter what phone I was using.

I was advised that he would guide me through the steps to secure my NBN connection and as iPhone and Android devices used different set up functions he would need to know in order to provide me with the correct instructions!

I advised him that I was using an Android device (cough cough) I don’t lol but I wasn’t gonna tell him that!

He then instructed me to open up the google play store and search for a app, which I did.

After I located the app and enquired what kind of app this was!

The caller advised me that it was a Remote Desktop application.

(Alarm Bells Ringing)

I enquired as to what the purpose of installing a Remote Desktop app on my mobile device would achieve as the NBN service runs on fibre to the house and has absolutely nothing to do with the mobile device or service that I am using!

He paused for a moment and continued to explain that this app would fix the compromised NBN service.

I continued to let him talk and listen to his bull before I informed him that the only person attempting to compromise my services is him

I also informed him that I wasn’t born last week and that I know exactly what a Remote Desktop app is and what it does.

I advised him that it would provide him with access to my mobile device from anywhere in the world and that he would be able to obtain any personal and financial information that may be stored on my mobile device.

He again paused for a few moments and attempted to reassure me that’s it’s all legitimate and not a scam!

I said ok, tell me this if like you telling me that my NBN connection/service has been compromised wouldn’t my service provider be calling me to advise me of this!

And if what you were saying was true, and the entire NBN network was compromised and peoples services suspended because of it, wouldn’t the Commonwealth Government who by the way owns the NBN sending out emails, letters and making calls to people to advise them of this fact?

He started to get frustrated and became demanding in his tone of voice asking me “do you want to keep your service or not”!

I said,”sure I wanna keep it, but what I am not willing to do is fall for some mother F***ing Son of Bi**h’s scam”!

I advised him further that he should go F*ck him self and that he was the lowest of the lowest trying to scam people for financial gain!

I continued to advise him that he should find a new profession as he clearly sucked at what he was doing and that with current level of scamming he wouldn’t have be able to scam a monkey out if his banana!

He swore back at me and hung up.

Nice try …

Share the number and let people know that this is a scam and not to install any Remote Desktop apps onto their device.

I would hate to see people getting scammed and losing what little money they have!
