Very similar SMS message from the same number 0401 518 254 and on the same day, 13/04/26. Message addressed as "Hi Mum" to mum's phone claiming using a new SIM to replace the old damaged one which was not working. Asked for family photos to replace some lost with the Sim, then asked to send money to pay a bill which would be repaid tomorrow.

Scammer, started with the "HeyMum" got a new sim card message. Quickly moved to needing help. Them: I've got locked out of online banking for 24 hrs due to security block and need to pay a bill. Could you pay it for me? Me: 'What bill, you told me you were up to date on everything' Them: Popped up yesterday, old bill, its 2214.22 can you pay it for me and i transfer it back tomorrow? Me: I'm on my way over to take you to the bank, they'll organise the payment. Them: Silence Knew straight away the message was suss, still called my child, who confirmed they had not changed their number.
