I got the similar message and I checked with OPTUS and they said they have recovery partners so looks like they have hired some gang to recover money.

When I called the lady didn't want to state the company's name so something is fishy here.

I got the same text "Hi , Your Optus account is now overdue. Please contact us on (03) 9190 4796 to discuss your payment options and quote CC".

I called Optus shortly after and spoke with a person in their financial hardship area as IF my account (not due till the 15th March) was passed on, the hardship area would be able to access that information very easily.

The Optus representative confirmed that my account was fine, payment ext in place till the 15th March (due to the public holiday vs pay schedules) AND these people are NOT acting on behalf of Optus.

Hi, your optus account is now overdue. Please contact us on (03) 9190 4796 to discuss your payment options and quote CC... I rang them and they did seem to know some things about me including amount of last payment but then claimed I still owed close to $300 which I could settle immediately over the phone. I said I wanted to chek my bills as it did not make sense .. person on the phone kept stating that my phone would be cut off. Have since checked online dashboard and my bills are all up to date. Yet to speak with OPTUS directly but does seem like some type of a scam. Does bother me how much they knew though ..

I called Optus directly and as suspected my account was paid up and nothing was due. I logged it with them as a scam

Claimed to be from Optus - seemed fraudulent - didn't have correct details - asked for credit card details - refused and contacted Optus Fraud Reporting dept.
