They are Honda Australia. Called me about a recall for my Honda Jazz.

Legit call

Very suspicious thick accent, called me Mrs (firstname) which was also suspicious, fuzzy connection. Wanted details about my Honda and a passenger airbag recall. I asked if I could just call my own dealer and sort it myself and they were happy with that. Called Dealer myself, phone call was legit!

I called back number (03) 9093 0612 reached IVR for a company called Honda Australia.

Caller: Honda Australia

Legit. Sounded very suspicious at first, so treated the caller harshly and tersely. They were calling back regarding an enquiry about an e-mailed request for an unlisted specification on a Honda motorcycle.

I told them I don't have a relationship with Honda and asked what it was about. They tried to launch into some long spiel which I short-circuited and asked the numbers for the specification. Received the information, ended the call quickly.

I think Honda need to rethink their outbound caller script because the international call centre's method is soooo close to a scammer's method. Callers with a VOIP number look suspicious at the best of times, and the voice was a lady from the subcontinent. Not very comforting. I was so close to ending the call impolitely and prematurely because of the MO.

However, again, legit and Honda Australia.

I called back to get to Honda Australia but the person was rude once I wanted to know how they got my number. I dont own a Honda.

They just hung up

They said they are from the ATO. The Australian Tax office doesn't call on weekends, so they are liars. Scammers, don't talk to them.
