Caller: Indian voice supposedly from ATO

He said he's from ATO in an amazingly thick accent you could barely understand. As soon as he said that I told him the ATO never calls people and we're not that stupid. He hung up.

Caller: Bryan Cooper - supposedly ATO - Tax and Fraud Department

Had 2 missed calls from this number. When I searched for it on google yesterday morning, i didn’t find anything so I called the number back.

Bryan Cooper (male) answered and said he was from ATO - the Tax and Fraud Investigation Dept. Before he could tell me why someone had called me, he wanted me to "verify" my personal details such as name, age, address.

Don't get fooled by this!! It sounded legit, even though my gut was saying that something wasn't right.

He gave me a case number, his name, his ID badge, warrant number.

He then proceeds to say that I was under investigation and had committed fraud on tax returns. He was threatening that if I hung up then the call recording would be given to the police to come and arrest me and that I had to stay on the line. The call was also being "monitored" by 3 govt departments at the same time.

I've blocked the number and going to report it to the ATO. Don't bother answering.

Missed 2 calls from this number, couldn't find anything on google this morning when I searched this number up so called them back.

Bryan (male) answered saying this was the ATO and that I am being investigated for fraud for my "incorrect" tax returns. Caller was threatening to arrest me, and also told me not to hang up or else the call recording will be passed straight onto the police as evidence to arrest me. Also told me that the call was being monitored by 3 govt departments at the same time.

He gave me a case number, his name, his badge ID and warrant number.

Don't fall for it, it sounded legit, even though my gut was saying this is a Scam and that I shouldnt be giving my personal details for "verification" in their system.

Blocked the number and will be reporting it to the ATO.
