The following is suspected to be a scam from India. How they can have access to an Australian phone number is beyond me, but this is their number (03) 9001 5766My parents recieved a couple of calls from this number. The person who called addressed herself as Lisa Brown (she had a strong indian accent) she claimed to be from the Tax Office Canberra.She said my parents were entitled to the sum of $4200 AUD from a government rebate scheme, just for paying their utility bills on time?She then transfered the call to a guy who addressed himself as Rudy (he also had a strong Indian / American accent) he advised my parents the money would be transfered to their accounts immediately. However they are required to pay the sum of $165 AUD for bank fees at Western Union?The payment is to be made to a David William and Destination country would be India...Just to advise anyone recieving calls like these, not to go and pay any amount. Contact your local police and report the matter. We have already spoken to higher authority, we have been advised an investigation is underway.

just received a call from this number and i was told exactly the same as you've explained except for the receiver for the $165 in india through western union was George Nicolos. As he said i need to send this amount first before they could send me the rebate, i said sorry and hung up.... first they asked me my credit card detail but i only ended up giving them my A/c and bsb no.

As he said i need to send this amount first before they could send me the rebate and also he gave me file no and he said go to your nearest post office as soon as posible to transfer the money
