I am getting five or six calls a day.. I am have been ill and my father is 89 and I need to be able to be available for him but these calls are driving me crazy. I had to get out of bed to get to the phone in case it was him. Is there no way to block them?

Image my panic when I realised that my nbn was going to be disconnected immediately if I don't press 1 and talk to the technician. So i pressed 1 (wink inserted here) and got transferred to a lovely Indian speaking man named Peter (hmmmm). Peter assured me that I was indeed going to have all my services disconnected if I don't pay the required fee. Peter was a little rude and forceful. I asked Peter if I could speak to Nicole as she was Australian and probably could understand me better and didnt seem as rude. Peter said "no,it is not possible to speak with nicole at the moment as she is current on another call" I replied "oh ok, please get her to call me" and hung up. The phone rang straight away, I thought wow great service, I answered and a male voice called me a "f*cking bitch" in a very familiar Indian voice and hung up. O well

Many Many times. It is a pretty sick phone system we have when exactly the same spam / hoax call has been made for years and it just goes unpunished. We are giving facebook a hard time over not taking down a feed in minutes. How many million dollars of lost productivity must Australia suffer? How many people are actually being scammed.
DO SOMETHING!!!!!
Here's a thought charge these people on an increasing per call scale for their calls.

Hi, this is Nicole from the Australian National Broadband Network.
We have been trying to get in touch with YOU! .... please press 1 to get yourself connected to the technician.
5 time now and I am not a happy camper. The police have the ability to stop these scammers if they had sufficient resources and the directive from the government to do something about it. These scammers are breaking numerous criminal laws including federal laws. Its time vulnerable (usually senior) people in our society, who don't know better, be protected by the people who are supposed to do just that.

We had oversea calls blocked back in October as Nicole was freaking my elderly mother with her harassment. Yet two days after we move to NBN we start getting g Nicole’s calls again, so it seems out overseas blocking didn’t move across with us.

Nicole has rung me 3 times in 2 hours on my homeline. She has rung many times before as well. I just hang up but 3 times today is too much and is annoying.

There has to be a solution. Ever since NBN was available in my area, the landline has become a burden. I get at least 4 calls daily, The Nicople NBN ones twice in a half hour so far today. I previously had numerous "Someone in your family has been injured" calls, the usual dangers to my compromised PC, etc., etc
I ince used the landline solely to speak to my near deaf mum, but a combination of the poor quality VOIP. lack of connection to off-grid power and near complete dominance of spam calls has rendered the service less than useless. The actual handset is now some distance from my workspace, so if I am expecting something important from a caller who doesn't have my mobile number, I rush to get it, then hear the voiceless static which usually precedes this type of call.
I suggest the every person in Australia has similar concerns and is similarly frustrated. Again we've been given a very useful technology, higher speed internet, but have fallen for assurances that this change will be an overall improvement.
Ultimately, it's a national problem with real financial burdens and implications for safety convenience, let alone what may happen to the extremely small percentage who fall for such scams.
I just checked Telstra's site. A few stock images of impossibly smiling folk and a very, very long page of scams.
It's a situation where no body (as in institution, company or Government agency) accepts responsibility. It's certainly beyond individual users, despite the cunning tactics some use.
Legislation needs to better keep up with technological change, so that those profiting from these changes bear the actual burden of the costs.

I've just received four calls to my landline today from Nicole. I've had NBN for the last six months, so I knew it was a scam from the start. Feel for older people that think this is legit. I'm above violence but these calls are getting annoying and i really want to shank that b**** Nicole!

The scammers are overseas and so there is pretty much nothing that Telstra or anyone in Australia can do to stop them. That the number calling you appears to be an Australian number is due to something called 'spoofing'. If you have caller id you can block the number, unless it's a 'private number', but even if you block a number the calls will still come because they just keep spoofing new numbers. I have more than a dozen blocked numbers in my phone and it's growing every day.

Caller: Nicole from the NBN broadband network?

There must be 1000's of us who get this scamming call, why can't something be done by Telstra to trace them and then stop them, they use only a few numbers. Telstra or some body stop them

I am so sick of getting this call, numerous times a day. Actually pressed 1 the other day and finally got an international call centre person. Went through the issue with me and then I finally got a chance to say Stop Calling Me - I already have NBN and I'm sick of your calls. Then I blew my umpires whistle into the phone and hung up and they are still phoning me - even late at night when we are trying to sleep. Somebody must know how or be able to stop these people.
