i said HELLO four times. Sounded like a dead line. I stayed on the phone and its like they un muffled the speaker for a split second then hung up. How do they get our number? Ive had this number for 17 years and i only have 32 contacts on my list. Every contact thats on my list, i have theirs in return. Im funny about giving my number out and dont enter competitions and i also have NEVER given this number to any billing companies....nobody has it exept close friends

Pretended to be checking for Directory Assistance listings. SPAM, SPAM, SPAM. Tried to ring back, no luck

Same for me as well. I suggest you all contact the do not call register and register your mobile number with them.

This must be a outsourcing centre as i just got a call this time it was from some one calling on behalf of the federal government insulation trying to organise inspection times to have it checked. I did not give her my details she already knew them. So given the differetn replies from people for the same number i think its a safe bet that its a call centre

they ring as private numbers then switch to this number up to ten times a day these rats need to be rid of

I just got 3 missed calls so I tried calling the number back... the phone rings 3 times and hangs up... very fishy

Had above 'silence/hang-up' call x3 times today. Then I found this page. Same number called again while still looking and I 'put-a-voice-on' this time. The silence came good and the caller asked for me by name, and said they were from one of my valid utility providers. The background noise did sound like a call centre. I was still sceptical and asked for a number to call them back on. It might just be some call centre employee's trying to score points on the cheap by *making* more calls for clients. BOTTOM LINE: NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR DETAILS TO RANDOMS - CALL THEM BACK ON THE NUMBER IN THE PHONE BOOK

same thing as joan but i get this almost on a weekly basis and no one can tell who or what they are

Came into work this morning, had a missed call at 6:08pm last night on my work number, which is an extension and not advertised externally.  Number was 8416 1400.  I'd rather they ring my work though than home or mobile and gee whiz, what a shame I missed their call...

I got the call again (03) 8416 1400) and this time I managed to answer it. After a few seconds it flicked over to a human (someone at a Call Centre in the subcontintent) representing True Energy.After I refused to give them any information to identifty who I was for their so-called 'security purposes'(they called me for Pete's sake not the other way around...why should I assist in identiftying myself) the call was terminated.

Tried to call back and keeps hanging up after three rings....Bit dodgy

It annoys me when people say these calls are a breach of the Do Not Call act, because they are not.  Do Not Call act is only relevant to marketing calls (cold calls trying to sell you something if you have no previous relationship to the company.)

It seems to me these calls are from a company contacting the customers of large Australian corporates for collections, customer care, sales etc.  Unless you specifically 'opt out' of recieving calls from a company you have a relationship with, they can call you for a number of reasons without having to comply with a single aspect of the Do Not Call Register act.

If you want to stop getting calls from these companies, simply call them and opt our of marketing.
