Caller: Scam?

Caught me in the car when I couldn’t see the caller id. I’ve had a lot of calls with similar numbers from “Hobart Tasmania.” Polite female voice, vague reference to poverty in this country. Cut her off before she got far into it. Have blocked all these callers but they just keep ringing using a different number.

Yesterday I didn't answer as I don't know anyone from that area code. If they really wanted to talk to me they would have left a message. Today another call but the last two digits were 69 and again I didn't answer and no message left. I will be blocking these numbers.

every day someone calls, every day one or up to 5 calls from scammers. When is it going to end?

My experience with these is they're actually not real people or they are clever recordings. I asked a few unusual questions to test it out and it couldn't generate a response quick enough. Not sue if the same as these but very clever and I almost donated and pulled the pin when I felt unsure. Similar to previous comments.

Have had a lot of these calls also from Hobart and all my family and friends live there so thought at first glance it might be one of them. But I figured if it was important they’d leave a message, which they didn’t. Then I noticed others calling from Hobart with the same first 4-5 numbers but the others were different, still no messages. I’ve blocked all these calls. Having worked as a CFO I know that you don’t answer calls from “unknown” numbers, my own bank told me to never answer these calls because they are nearly all scam calls and if it was important they would leave a message. So don’t get fooled!

This number came up as "Phishing". Now no new numbers come up on my phone with a name identity unless I have entered a name for it or it's been listed. So clearly this number had been id'd before. I hung up so never spoke with anyone. FYI

Caller: Fund raiser from "your community"

Softly spoken Heather Thomas rang and explained that with so much inequality in my community, fund raising is an urgent priority and can I help with a small donation of $25. They take credit card or direct debit. Thinking she was my local community I offered cash and where can I deliver it to. She said cash was not an option. I said "for me, card transactions over the phone to unknown persons are very unsafe" and I refused. She politely thanked me for my time and said goodbye. Thinking about this afterwards, I reckon its a scam because there's no certainty of where your money actually goes. My brother in Sydney claims (03) 6184 7333, (03) 6184 7356, 57, & 58 have pestered him for weeks. The perfect scam is when you never actually know you've been scammed.

Caller: A generic charity fundraiser lady

Polite aussie lady thanking me for allowing her to talk about hardship and poverty in our community. Eventually asking for a donation. I was swayed to donate by her gentle approach but when she asked for credit card details I had second thoughts. Asking her about the charity name and location, she gave me generic type answers and I quickly realised that I didn't actually know who she was and that I would never know just where the money was going. I politely said "no thanks".
