debt collectors

My phone, sitting on desk cms away from me did NOT actually ring, when I checked text messages later there was a message saying just my name, not who they were , that I was to call back and quote a number. I rang back , got a "cold" lady with a VERY echoey background which I informed her it was hard to hear her due to echo. It came up on phone that I was being recorded, she did then state she was from the debt collection agency in Vic. I quoted number, she then asked me for my home address. I informed her that this number also comes up as a scam number and I will not hand over my home address to a stranger on a phone given that 90% of calls from numbers not on my list are infact from scammers. I asked her for the company I apparently owe money to and that I would gladly call them to confirm and organise payments with, if I have missed any payments on a bill. She said she cannot disclose such information and I certainly was not handing money over to rude, vague female on the phone.Her tone of voice changed and she became what I would deem to be defensive. I said thank you , bye and hung up the phone.

Caller: Scammers

Said they were debt collectors but they called a private number for a mobile we only lend to staff when needed. This number is never given out and certainly isn’t used as a contact number on any accounts we have. Impossible for someone to refer a debt for collection and have knowledge of this phone number. Refused to tell us who the “debt” was with, just demanded we pay them money and they would pass it on. Scam. Beware.

Caller: Scammer

Man with foreign accent called and advised I owe money to the government. Could not provide specifics - just vague information, and lots of threats. I hung up before they could ask me for payment via gift cards.

Caller: Ballarat Council

Called me saying they are from Ballarat council, and I owe them money. Then wanted to know my name / address etc (funny how they know I owe them money without knowing who I am). I told them I have never been to Ballarat in my life, and they must have the wrong person. They insisted I owe money. They are blocked now.

Caller: Claimed to be Bendigo Council

Caller claimed to be calling from Bendigo council and wanted to know my personal details.
I don’t live in Bendigo, the caller ID is not a Bendigo number. Scammer for sure.

I returned a call from (03) 5173 6203 but reached vm for State Credit Collect

Were friendly and legitimate.

I called back number (03) 5173 6203 spoke to a woman who said company name is MCC Australia.
