My 88 yr old dad has this number listed 28 times on his bill, each time for 2,3 or 4 seconds. It is the only number to be found in his voicemail account from Southern Phone. Some days he gets them 3 times per day in quick succession. He never uses voicemail and his call logs do not show this number.

Caller: Optus Internal Carrier Number

Wow, reading this page just made me fear for 1. The education system. 2. The poor bastards that are married to some of the previous contributors.

This is an Optus internal carrier number for data and voicemail. It’s no charge.

It’s not a cheating spouse or covert hookers.

Don’t bring a telco into your obviously failing marriages.

This number is unknown to me and appears on my phone I am wondering is this number linked to the Pegasus mass surveillance app made overseas it is planted by SMS and it listens to your calls collects your texts looks at your contacts and photos and even can turn the microphone on without your knowledge it even is hard to detect and to be detected and found usually requires forensic analysis of your device Search google and or youtube Pegasus spyware.I don't know for a fact I myself don't use porn dating sites as many people have listed in their responces if i were using it for a porn dating site it wouldn't matter because I am single but besides the fact I am a christian and porn dating sites I do not frequent. I will be contacting my telephone provider who is AGL who uses Southern Phone company who uses optus infrastructure. This is a bit suss as I do not use voicemail and often I do not receive phone calls or texts from people or important call ie doctor or a specialist. Another suss note is how often and the duration of the calls not lasting more than 3 to 5 seconds.... In my opinion its big tech or a 3 or 4 letter agency watching aka big brother?????

Caller: Some annoying person

Some a wipe calling me and I was waiting for a call from my Dr with test results. Got blank voicemail with no missed call logs on my phone so I contacted Optus to see if they could retrieve the number for me and
here I am. I've been stressing about my test result thinking I had missed a call from the DR. I am relieved that it isn't the doctor but very pissed off at this stupid scammer wasting my worries.

Its optus. If you dont answer your phone the person calling you gets an option to leave a message. Then this number shows up on your bill. Its not porn or a cheating spouse. Think about before you all jump to conclusions. Would Every cheating partner have the same phone number. NO that would be more than a Trillion to one chance.

Caller: Optus voicemail - outgoing call on my bill - I didn't know the number

If it's on your bill as an outgoing call, it's NOT a porn dating website, it's 100% Optus Voicemail. I had this number on my bill at least twice a day for days and was suss, read somewhere it's Optus voicemail, called voicemail, hung up, logged on to my usage and what do you know? The number (02) 9730 9996 was on my bill at the exact same time I called voicemail!

Changed my Provider from Telstra to AGL and received my first bill which had this number saying I dialled it 103 times. Hubby checked our bill and it says it's my voice mail. The number of times though are absolutely ridiculous, even if it the cost is Zero...it's quite annoying. Gonna change back to Telstra.

Amazing - I don't have voicemail on my account, yet this number appears as being diverted to voicemail. Their loss....

(02) 9730 9996 is how Optus shows voicemail deposits on bills. There's nothing nefarious about it at all.

Caller: Claiming to be Paypal

I didn't answer, they left a recording on my voicemail claiming to be Paypal saying they would be taking $200+ from my account. I called the number back & got an indian woman saying thank you for calling Paypal. I said you are not Paypal, stop calling this number! And she immediately hung up on me

If this number has any significance, would AGL or Optus please explain, close it down, or or block it from dialing.

It looks as though you may have made message remarks that many times. I have eight on my SP bill, but don't use voicemail myself. Therefore they are going to the exchange system??? All are for 3 seconds
