Get an answering machine and screen ALL your in-bound calls for scammers.
Scammers always hang up without saying a word when confronted with an answering machine.
If it's someone you recognise talking just pick up the hand-piece to connect with the caller.
Once scammers have your number they will always be calling if they know you answer the phone.

The game was given away quickly when there was a delay between my "hello" and his first words. Indian accent stating that it was in relation to a compensation matter arising from an accident within the last 3 years that had been linked to my telephone number. I should have asked him some questions but I simply told him no accidents in the last 25 years. He then said sorry and hung up

I am on acma do not call register so can't understand how they can still call me. The onky thing i can think of is that the register not cover calls from overseas.

This is a scam. Claims to be Australian Accident Helpline. Wanting to know if you have had a accident in the last two years. I get up to five calls a day. I tell them I am still waiting for them to send me a band aid as I kicked my foot three weeks ago. Ask them for the band aid manager and they will hang up. Have some fun with them instead of getting upset. Cheers Tim.

i have had this number dial several times in a day too, with the usual inactive response if you call the number back.

found this link in searching computer generated telemarketing...check it out

http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/12/10/meet-the-robot-telemarketer-who-denies-shes-a-robot/

i suspect the number call center in question has software that automatically dials all numbers know to it and the operators just pick up whatever lines answer. i guess... that would at least explain why they often don't say anything when they DO find someone on the other end of the phone.

This number has called us about 50 times today. We are a medical centre and urgent phone calls need to get through. I am in the processing of blocking this number.

Advice for all

Posted on August 19, 2014
Caller type: Scam
Location: Australia
Call Telstra's Unwanted and Nuisance Call line on 1800 805 996.

All numbers belong to a telecommunications company, and use of such number for unwanted / harassing phone calls is a breach of ACMA guidelines and can result in the number allocation being terminated due to breach.

Telstra will block the number coming into your phone system, so they'll get a message stating the number has been blocked.

They call and call and call - i think to obtain information like your name from an answering machine and then they tell you they're from an insurance company - TELL THEN TO STICK IT IN THEIR PAPPA-DOM

This number has contacted every phone in my office this afternoon with various results, but always with the query regarding someone having an accident in the last 3 years.
He's not very persistent though - when I informed him that he'd called all my workmates already he simply hung up!!

Overseas call disguising as local. Had these sort of calls before.
First indian woman then a man asking about an accident had in the last 3 years. They'll try again tomorrow and for a bit next week then eventually give up for at least 6 months.
Just hang up if you hear a delay and an indian accent.

What a freakn idiot. This fool keeps calling our number then is silent and I can hear the phone rustling, then hangs up. Maybe he works for some call centre and is trying to build up his 'number of calls'

We have had at least 20+ calls today from this Australian Accident Helpline and yes we get the same line from them about someone having had an accident. This is driving us bonkers. I am going to find some department to report it to because something needs to be done about all these scam phone calls coming in from overseas - surely there is something that can be done to stop this.
