Caller said he was from the Salvation Army and wanted me to donate to the red shield appeal over the phone.

Did not leave a message - Usually means a telemarketer or a scam. Surprised telemarketers have not worked out most people no longer answer unknown numbers or, if they do, most are not silly enough to give money over the phone!!

After a search it appears to be the Salvo's.

Charities harass and cheat donors by charging double or assuming one off payments are every month? They do not keep private details secure and hand them over to hackers. Check raffle tickets and bank statements are correct and if there is a problem getting a refund go to fair trade…

A recorded voice saying "this is an ABC widget" then I hung up. No idea what it was about.
