Could be rogue Fax machine but likely scam call of some sort? - answered incoming call from an (08) number first/just getting a repeating 'tone' like a fax would give waiting to be switched to the receiving fax (if you know/you know) ... BUT once I hung up, I then got THREE MORE identical calls, less than 30secs after I hung up each time .. from 3 different (07) numbers? .. THEN about 5mins later got another incoming call/same thing but from this (02) number ... then another 5 mins and ANOTHER call from a FOURTH (07) number ... VERY ANNOYING

Part of a Series of nuisance 'Fax' calls, started with (02) 8043 9242, then immediately after hanging up, (07) 3523 4550, again with (07) 3523 4514, and AGAIN with (07) 3523 4552 (which we diverted to VM, and this seemed to slow the 'onslaught'), then after several minutes (02) 9157 2889 (which we put on Hold till they hung up - and again, no immediately getting another one), and AGAIN after several minutes (02) 9157 2800 (which we again put on hold .. this time they didn't hang up before the 'call wait alert' buzzed, and call still in progress so we put on Hold again and THIS time they hung up after a few seconds - SO YOU KNOW, someone IS at the other end orchestrating the harassment! ) ... various Reddits and Google results hypothesize it's scammers trying to get your Cell/Mobile 'Wallet' to react/open in response to the Fax/CED tone .. but others disagree ... others wonder if it's to access your computer wirelessly by connecting to a wireless fax .... putting the calls on Hold seems to deter the perpetrators anyway ...

This is happening again in March 2026.

They all seem to be fax calls, all have left a VM of varying lengths (up to 5 mins long) which are just beeping noises at ~3 sec intervals.

Received an email to our organisation's admin inbox saying that a fax was sent successfully from this number, station ID was ozmedia.com.au. No idea what this means, we don't have a fax machine and looking up the fax number it was sent to shows a different organisation to us.

I'm the Commenter from August 2024 ... AND 2yrs later IT'S STARTED UP AGAIN!!! Series of calls incoming from what sounds like an International Fax machine, beeping away .. today the series began at 10am .. started with (02) 8043 9244, then (07) 3523 4513, (07) 3523 4518, (07) 3523 4521, and finished with (02) 9157 2800. THEN AT 11AM .. started again, with another 2 calls from (03) 9978 9468. At one point it had 3 of our 4 lines, tied up at once. THIS IS A DISRUPTION TO BUSINESS! WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SUE FOR THIS INTERFERENCE!!!! ... I did have the name/contact# of the company that I originally tracked all this down to .. lodged a complaint with an actual person/take our number off their list. And it seemed to work! But towards the end of last year, and in January this year, we started to get the occasional occurance again, but just 1 or 2 calls. Today we took a batch of 6, then 2, over an hour long period.

30.3.26 1-am - so they've started with us again!!! Series of calls incoming from what sounds like an International Fax machine, beeping away .. but first call is usually from a '02' nbr. You hang up, and then it repeats a couple of moments later, usually from a number in another state? (07 for example) and you will get up to a dozen of these, all different numbers, then cycles back to an '02' .. VERY DISRUPTIVE - especially if you have multiple lines, it will sometimes fill up ALL YOUR AVAILABLE LINES!! .. we had this issue back in 2024, and managed to get to the bottom of the telemarketing thing who had our number on a list. (I actually have the name/number saved somewhere, and we had to phone, lodge a complaint & request they remove our number - it seemed to work, but then we had a couple of episodes of this same thing again last year, and once more at start of this year - today we've had 5 incoming of these bastard calls back to back, at one point tying up 3 of our company lines. We ought to be able to SUE for interuption of business operations!

We are a busy medical practice and received numerous calls from various numbers (as others have mentioned here). However, when I was able to record one of the numbers I phoned it, and it sounded like old fashioned internet dial up sound.

Number called, sounds like a fax machine. Based on previous complaints it sounds like a scam.

I received 10 phonecalls from 5.15pm to5.45pm from this and 9 other numbers. All sounded like fax machines beeping.
