I let all these calls from 02 88 numbers go to the answering machine. Invariably they hang up. My wife was answering them and they were companies hired to beg for charities that take half of your donation as a fee.

i got a call from this number also about 2 hours ago, our mobile numbers must be alike..

I too got a call on my mobile from this number.  I rang it back from the work phone (private number so they couldn't identify me) and got a message "You have been called by a well known Australian charity" and then it hung up.

Is this one of those competition scams involving pressing phone keys to answer quiz questions? I hav had one before from (03) 8807 0219 so I simply didn't answer it this time as the number 0288..etc is unfamiliar to me.
