When I call back says it is CommBank. This number has called numerous times, and they never leave a message. When I speak to the bank, they say the number does not belong to them

5 January 2026 Caller informed me that he was from Commonwealth Bank and asked me to confirm my details (sounded professional). He then informed me that he had called regarding a banking matter i.e. that I had missed my home loan repayment. I knew then that this was a scam call..so I informed him that this was not true as my payment is automatically debited. He put me on hold to check and the music was exactly the same as the Commbank calls I had in the past. After a while on hold, he told me it was a technical issue (I think he realised that I didn't believe him) and promptly ended the call. Be aware, as I received several other calls from (02) area code which I did not answer... such as (02) 8214 5957. Unfortunately this call was professional...they had copied the music, Commbank procedures such as asking to open your Comm app etc. Please be wary

Caller: Commonwealth Bank THIS IS A REAL NUMBER FROM THE COMMONWEALTH BANK
I got a call from this number 10th March advising that a hefty debt had been cancelled. It seemed to good to be true so when I came to this page, I thought I'd been conned
But I just called the bank and they confirmed my debt is cancelled and this is a real number from their Sydney office
It's all good folks

Caller: (02) 8645 3371 So, I have been receiving calls from this number every morning and whenever I have received nobody speaks and they hang up. However, this morning I called back to check why am I getting calls from commonwealth. When I did, I was asked to enter my account pin number and I hung up immediately as no banks ever ask you to enter pin number on calls.
Then I called commonwealth, and they have confirmed it’s a scam call. Luckily I did not enter my pin number to let scammers access my account.
People be mindful of such scams!

This has happened to me too, frequently, in Nov '25. Can confirm Commbank also told me they're not contacting me & this is spammy. This is the most sophisticated scam I've come across in a sec, the person on the phone has an Aussie accent, the banking options sound very real, the t&c's message, all of it. I'm fancy myself quite good at sniffing out this sorta bs but I can see how this could catch people out - hope this helps someone.

To the person saying it is a real CBA number, maybe things have changed since your experience but the call I just got asked me to enter my CommBank app PIN into the phone to begin verification. Not enter it into the app - enter it right now on the phone keypad while on this call. CBA do not operate like that. Instead they ask you to log in to your CommBank app and verify the message that is waiting there for you. FYI all.

My phone said the number came from Blacktown (which is Sydney NSW). The recording started off by saying "Welcome to the Commonwealth Bank", then a few-second pause and "Okay, please enter your commback app PIN". It's like they have taken chunks out a regular call and put it together to try to scam details off you. You CommBank app PIN is quite powerful so beware of this one please.

This is a simple man in the middle attack. You are speaking to a Commbank representative on the other line, but a scammer/hacker is recording through this number. Do not say anything through this line, your identity will be compromised

When answered, it rings again forwarding the call. Never identify themselves, saying they urgently need to speak to ..... Has called many times, never left a message.

Caller: Scam This number is in no way associated with the Commonwealth Bank, however, it will transfer you through CommBank after you call it. The most significant risk here is that if you are routed through this number to the Commonwealth Bank it is entirely likely that the scammer is listening in on or recording the call that you then have with the legitimate CommBank operator.
CommBank will always recommend that you call them via the numbers that are published on their website, or if you're given a direct line it will be a 1300 number.
