Both yesterday & today I received a call on my mobile phone from the number (02) 8310 7997. The call seemed to be a recorded message from a James Anderson in which it states that he is from the Australian Taxation Office.
The call goes on to say that a warrant has issued in my name and directly relates to tax avoidance issues under my name. He says that the only way the matter can be resolved is if I call the number (the same one above here) and he emphasises that I should not ignore his call otherwise I will be arrested.
I have done a google search and found that this phone number directly relates to a new scam which has begun to circulate.

james called me today - little did he know the ato is a client of mine. I asked if "such and such" had spoken to him (name of assist tax commissioner) to which he replied "f*ck off and stop waiting my time". He then got a beautiful loud whistle blown into his ear! call terminated. always happy to assist where I can lol

Two messages on my mobile from James Anderson. Sounded breathless. Maybe he was recovering from the whistle treatment by kx.

Wollongong NSW. I received the same message as above.
What a pick I called the local ATO and reported the number. Don't even bother to ring it's a waste of your time and the cost of the call.

Phone call from Canadian or American stating he was from taxation office and we owe money.....

Dodgy - calling themselves the Tax office and saying the police will arrest you. BEWARE - not genuine

purported to be ATO and about to take out a warrant for tax avoidance.

Claims to be taxation dept then asks for my tax file number.

Left message. Said they were from the ATO and I was up for tax fraud. SCAMMERS!
