Caller: Someone claiming to be from Telstra help desk.

I got a landline call (number unknown) from someone claiming to be from Telstra help desk, who stated to me that my "modem had been sending out error messages in the last few days". I told him I thought he was a scammer and asked for a number to call him back. He gave this number and his name as Roger Dil...(something unintelligible). He wanted me to go to my computer and start doing stuff. Have dealt with Telstra quite a lot, and they don't even respond properly when you call them, let alone them call me proactively. Clearly this is not a number for Telstra Help Desk. NB that the cold call did not come from (02) 8091 4962 - that number was given to me verbally. My phone gave no record of the number that actually called me.

Caller: No Idea

Been called three times by this number, they generally try once a month. Blocked after reading these comments.

General rules of thumb:
1./ If it's important they'll contact via other contact info, most of your suppliers will have your e-mail address or your postal address, especially telecoms companies.

2./ Most people have voicemail, banks and other financial companies might not leave an e-mail, but again, they would have other ways to reach you. If it's important enough eventually they will leave you a voicemail, send an e-mail or post a letter.

3./ If you're only getting phone calls with no voicemails, no letters and no e-mails, strong change its telemarketing or scam.
