It's not a scam. If you google the 1800 number they gave you it's the Commonwealth Bank Remediation scheme. They're refunding for incorrect charges made for financial services.

I have never had an account with commonwealth bank. I could barely understand him his accent was so thick. Rang 8.30pm. No legit business calls at that hour. I told him to f off. Definitely a scam.

It is so elaborate, it is actually the truth. It is the Commonwealth Bank Remediation Team and the 1800 413 797 number of valid. Most likely your wife has been overcharged for something for charged for something she did not use/want and the Commonwealth Bank is attempting to remediate. Recommend you call them back.

This is the legitimate number of the Commonwealth Bank. There is even a menu that mentions it as an option to select when you call. It's a remediation program refunding money for services they may not have provided and now have to give back to customers. I checked this at a local CBA branch. CBA customer service called the number I gave them and we resolved it on the phone. 1800 413 797 is the legitimate number. Best to go in the branch yourself.

Caller (with Chinese accent) rang my wife's phone, posing as Commonwealth Bank. Wanted to speak with my wife, asking for her by name and surname. As she was not available, he requested to be called back on 1800 413 797 giving me a "reference number". I did a lookup of the number online, and there is no record for this number. I called it, and recorded message (clearly Aussie voice) stated that I've got Commonwealth Bank. DEFINITELY ELABORATE SCAM!!!

My phone ID this as a scam, checked it out at a CBA branch & after checking they connected me with the number, but check it out for yourself, it may be worth your time, I received several thousand back. This is not a scam.

Received a call from this number, saying they were Commonwealth Bank and asking to confirm details - I was dubious at first, however, checked it out via my local branch and it is legit! They are refunding incorrect charges from a few years ago (I got over 5K back!) Definitely worth a call back to check it out.

Claims she was working for CBA and that a recent letter was returned to them via Aus Post. wanted my security details before she could tell me what the letter contained and said it has wrong address. Only ever lived at the one address and received all other mail from CBA. Gave me a fake 1800 to call back.
