I called back number (02) 8049 0841 reached IVR for a company called Optus.

it's legit as I had called Optus, then as the queue was long, I asked them to call me back when my call was due.

Optus call back number that does not work. Received a call when requested a call back but no voice from other side when picked the phone. Called back the same number but no option to talk.

I had the same experience. Answered the call & there was just silence (hence coming online to check if it was the Optus callback I'd requested or another marketing line checking my availability). Tried calling back & an automated message advised of other numbers / options for getting in touch with specific departments (not very helpful to me!)

When asking for a call back, you must ensure you stay on the line - it will automatically say its an answering service and try to hang up - press 1 to stay on the line.

Came on to see if scan number. I never requested a call back so I don’t know why they are calling me. They called same time last week. I picked up, no one there. Immediately hung up.
Probably be cautious
Especially if they don’t identify themselves

Had a return call from Optus within the 30 min call back BUT it only rang twice!!!! Looked up the phone no and found this website. Very helpful - thanks. However knowing it was safe, I phoned back the (02) 8049 0841 but their answering service options only gave the relevant 133--- numbers to call back again. Seeing the above I don't think I'll hang around again, I'll just call the 133--- again.

Same for me...No identification of person from Optus that I was expecting the call from. A waste of time...another reason to ditch Optus!

as per what everyone else is saying - this is the number you get when you request a call back from Optus, and they just ignore you and then hang up. Yes i stayed on the line.. i repeated "hello" many times and I could hear someone typing. Then they just hung up on me. I suspect this is the international way of logging more calls to the call centre (we are all having to call twice at least!). Glad to read it is happening to many others. Optus need to know, and bring services BACK TO AUSTRALIA PLEASE

Looked up the number. Says it was Optus call back, but no-one there. Call disconnected from the caller.

If it was optus, they need to fix their system.

I never did get a callback from optus, so back in the queue again.

Rang Optus and requested a call back. They did through this number. But the call was problematic. They didn't border to call me again.
