I received a message from this number today around midday claiming to be ATO and regarding a refund .
have also received phoney emails claiming to be ATO...Same scammers?

I had the same today. First they tried to get the info from my mum and mum told them she was a pensioner then they asked to speak to me but not by name

I also got a call from an automated calling machine (kind of american accent) asking to call back (02) 8014 9877. I did to check what they ar etrying to do. A lady with an Indian accent claimed to be a Tax office official and giving me her ID #. Then she wants to know my details... DUH...

I reported with ATO.It is a scam. Beware!

Normally, I don't normally trust "Blocked calls", or "Private numbers".

Now, I don't even trust local Australian numbers. I wonder how are they able to get hold of Australian Telephone number.

Can we report it to Dept of Telecommunications? Any use?

The computer generated voice with American accent claiming to be the ATO is laughable. Scammers are SCUM.

I work as an accountant and I had a client call saying they received a call from this number about a tax refund. I have checked with the ATO and it is definitely a scam.

Left message on my dad's answering machine about a refund. Was very precise about the amount and advised to call this number back. Called back and didn't even dial

I also have received a similar call from this number, saying that she is calling from ATO and I am eligible for a refund. She was asking for a detailed verification inc the Notice of Assessment no, which did seem a scam to me. I then hanged up and called ATO to verify the issue, and the staff member confirmed that it's a scam.
