These scammers have lots of ways of getting names, address and dates of birth.  They do not rely on the 'phone book.  The main thing is that, if your Government is like ours in the UK, it would take thumb screws and matches under their fingernails to get them to refund any money to Joe Pubic.  Even if they have money for us there would be 3 miles of paperwork, in triplicate, to fill in, not just a 'phone call.

Called them back and they hung up after I quick the female supervisor.

Person called me saying they were from a government dept and that the govt wanted to give me a refund of over $5000. To confirm my acceptance I had to ring this number quoting the number TG13.They knew my full Christian name - which is not in the phone book - and my birthday.

I am a police officer,  I received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a phone call she received from Nick Peters.  She was given a phone number (02) 8011 4103 and told to provide a reference number.  I called this number myself.  I female answered the phone who stated she was a  manager.  when question how the business worked she hung up.  I rang back and advised her that I was a police officer and I have a concerned member of the public who received a call from Nick Peters.  She stated she had 1700 files in front of her and if she could have the reference number.  I asked her how she got these files,  how does the business work.  She again hung up on me.  DO NOT provide these callers with your date of birth as apparently they are asking for it.  DO NOT provide them with you address even if they have it!!!
