Caller: Telstra NBN Jeff Anderson and Mark Allen

Indian men (one initiated the call and the other supposedly 'the tech') called themselves Jeff Anderson ID TLS759 (knew the NATO phonetic alphabet) and Mark Allen ID D825025 telling about how TELSTRA mother servers detected virus threat from our internet connection. Giving the number 02 800 67924 when I said I need to ring back. And then I found this thread and the rest is history. One can never be careful enough.

"Mark Alan" (Indian accent) rang about upgrading to 5G. A bit hard to hear-bad phone line, saying free upgrade, wanted to know how we access internet eg. Lap top, P.C. I didn't tell him, and said it was fine and we don't need 5G. He kept trying to hassle me, something about a fault on the cable, so I said I need to talk to someone else. He wanted to know why I couldn't give the info. Said I am busy now, give me your name and number and I will discuss it with someone, and will call back (Not). So I googled the number-thank goodness, in case he calls again. Never mentioned Telstra, just NBN.

Claimed to be from NBN as slow service over the past few days I would get a new fibre optic connection. Indian accent and call centre in the background. I asked for the NBN no to call back and he gave me this no (02) 8006 7924 however they called from (02) 4047 9271 (Newcastle NSW). He started asking how many devices we had in the house and I said I would check to verify before calling back. Sure seems like a scam to me!!! Thanks everyone for putting up your comments to confirm.

Caller (indian accent) claimed to be Telstra NBN and they would be upgrading to 5G in the area. We would get a free modem upgrade.
Knew the Name and Address of the account.
Identified himself as "Mark Allen" Telstra Employee ID D825025
Wanted me to go to a connected device, open browser and then go to www.anydesk.com I quickly looked up what anydesk does - legit replication site but also used by scammers to access connected computer.
At that stage I asked why we were not going via Telstra.com webpage, which he didn't respond to, so I asked him if he was legit what is our Telstra Customer Number? At which point he hung up. Wooohooo

Stated he was from Telstra Technical Support and there was fraudulent activity on my Internet account. He Said he could address over phone (assume he wanted remote access). Got his employee no. TLS 7459. Declined to discuss further and said I’d contact Telstra. He was very convincing (accent did raise suspicion though). Telstra later advised me they had nil faults on my lines - don’t be fooled.

Rcvd call today Kelly Silvia Employee #D666029 claiming they were from Telstra technical and that my internet was due to be cut off tomorrow for 15 days. Even though I'm with Optus! Told them to bugger off ... they hung up.

I also got a call on my silent landline about the disconnection of my Telstra in 15 days. I asked for a phone number to call them back on and was surprised that they gave it to me and also gave me a name. Hate that we live in a world where people do this

Scammer - Apparently Telstra's Technical Department - I said I had a customer, asked what their number was so I could call them back - rattled it off quickly twice and then hung up on me. Clearly a scam.

Be alert if you’ve recently had Telstra outsourced NBN workers on your premises. My phone number is a silent number and rarely receive phone calls outside of family and friends. These scammers are claiming to be from Telstra. Coincidence? I think not.

“Jasmine” Indian lady, said she was from Telstra and my mums internet will be shut down for 15 days. Asked if mum could go to the computer to help provide information. No idea how they got her number as it’s a silent number. Makes my blood boil as elderly folks tend to be trusting, fortunately my mum has no idea how to use a computer

Has rang me before and always hangs up when I ask her employee number. Today she claimed I had foreign interference from foreign link using my Telstra data on my iMac.
She became quite aggressive today and once again she hung up on me. I phoned Telstra and they checked my account notes and no authorised Telstra person had phoned me (apparently Telstra download conversation when you talk with real Telstra people).
