My wife just got the phone call then claiming she was owed $4800 in overcharged fees from her bank. The caller claimed to be calling on behalf of a Government department. They really need to work on their script... apart from the caller being very hard to understand due to a heavy accent, she stated that my wife was owed this money from being overcharged by her bank.... the caller then proceeded to ask what bank my wife actually banks with! I decided to call the Managers number (02) 8006 1797) that they said we needed to call to oraginse the cheque. We didnt ring and within 10 minutes they rang us back and said we must call him asap so we could get the cheque in 2 hours. I said, "You mean there will physically be a cheque delivered within two hours?" to which she answered "YES!". I decided to call Richard Lee. He answered and asked for my wifes name. I quoted the application code my wife was given. He asked for my wifes name again and again i quoted the app code. He got a bit angry and asked for her name, again I quoted the app code that we were given and said you should be able to get her name from that. He then hung up on me!Waiting to see if they call back again.... SCAMMERS!!ps. Our caller ID displayed OVERSEAS

Got a call today from a young asian-sounding lady apparently saying she worked for the Australian government to reclaim money overcharged by our bank. Then proceeded to ask which bank I am with - which on later reflection gave it away as a scam, but only after the end of the call when I had given her also my first name. Checked on the internet and soon found the "Reclaim export" scam. But these people have adapted what they say based on past experience. Gone is John Smith, it was Richard Lee the person I should call to obtain my $4851. This scam got closer to convincing me than others, like I say it was only after I had put the phone down I fully realised. Possibly because I didn't think anyone could be so cold-hearted and bare-faced - claiming to be from the government, discussing with me my hard-earnt money. A sad reflection of the depths of human capacity.

Re: "(02) 8006 1797" scam out of a NSW Australia number.
Hi Tegan,
An elderly friend of mine in Victoria received the same call to say that she was owed close to $5,000 from Westpac in overcharged fees and she could either claim it as a deposit directly into her account or by cheque.
My friend is very on-the-ball and recognised the danger and said just send it as a cheque. Without drawing breath the scammer said to her that she needed to organise a money order at the post office and send it to this guy so that he could the tax due on the cheque before sending it.
Westpac have been notified and they said they have had several calls about this scam. But if anyone can ID this scammers number "(02) 8006 1797" I'd like know so that I can take it further.
